Scramble to save new-born lambs from cold

FARMERS across Scotland are struggling to keep new-born lambs alive as the cold snaps grips the country.

Hill farms have been hit particularly hard. George Nicolson, of Essich Farm, Inverness, said if he did not get to the lambs within five minutes of birth they would die.

He was taking as many as possible to the farmhouse to warm them up but feared the death toll could run to more than 100. The Glasgow Weather Centre forecasts milder weather soon.
