Strobs response

STROBILURIN fungicides will give an 8-10% yield advantage in wheat over triazole chemistry this season, Mr Norman predicts.

"Last year we only saw a 3% response, the year before that 13%. This year I think it will be somewhere in between."

Low early season disease pressure has given way to rising levels of septoria, notably in Kent, Dorset and Wilts, he says. But provided growers had a robust protectant fungicide on in good time at flag leaf they can expect a good response.

"We went into the flag leaf spray with totally clean crops. Our farm managers using Syngentas septoria test kit struggled to find a positive response," he notes. &#42
