Young farmworker killed in machinery accident

An investigation has been launched after a young farmworker was killed in a farm machinery accident.

Emergency services were called to a farm in the Hensol area of south Wales on Saturday morning (23 May) following a 999 call.

Police and ambulance crews arrived at the farm, but a 26-year-old man from the Bridgend area was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the accident involved a feeder wagon.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “At 9.45am on Saturday 23 May, South Wales Police officers attended a farm in the Hensol area following reports of a sudden death of a 26-year-old man from Bridgend area.

“Next of kin have been informed. South Wales Police will carry out a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9.50am on Saturday 23 May to an emergency at an address in the Hensol area of Pontyclun.

“We sent a rapid response car, an emergency ambulance and the trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.”

The Health and Safety Executive said it was aware of the incident and was making preliminary enquiries.
