Having cut 51ha (125 acres) of Catana oilseed rape two weeks ago, which averaged 4t/ha (1.5t/acre), he had hoped to combine more yesterday (6 August) but found it wasn’t ripe, at 30% moisture.

“Our forecast looks unsettled for the next 10 days, and nothing is really ripening.”

The 40ha (100 acres) of Tipple spring barley and 49ha (120 acres) of Mascani winter oats were close, but needed a window of good weather. “The rape isn’t shedding but some of the oats are starting to go down,” he said.

The 650ha (1600 acres) of Solstice, Alchemy, Istabraq and Einstein were still some way off.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
