Finished near Driffield

Paul Temple finished harvest at Wold Farm, Driffield, Yorkshire, on Wednesday (1 September), after a relatively easy run.

“We were lucky as we avoided the worst of the weather, so it was really quite straightforward.”

One great bonus was that straw yields were excellent, and it was dry enough to bale straight after the combine, he said.

Humber and Panorama first wheats averaged 10t/ha (4t/acre), which was about average.

Saffron winter barley was also about average, at 7.7t/ha (3.1t/acre), but Catana oilseed rape proved exceptional, at 5t/ha (2t/acre).

With this week’s better weather, most farmers had now finished up in the area, he added.
