A new self-cleaning trough from Aquamidas could help farmers save time and reduce animal health problems.

Independent trials showed the new Fresha Trough could prevent algae and microbes from growing in cattle trough resulting in "an important decrease of all bacteria tested".

The trough holds 250 litres and comes pre-treated with an antimicrobial coating comprising silver and active metals.

According to Aquamidas, it is hoped the new technology will not only save farmers' time, but also reduce the numbers of illnesses occurring in field-based animals.

The Fresha Trough will not only stay algae-free, but is double skinned for insulation and has smooth corners to prevent chafing.
