Fendt 700 tractor to trek 900 miles for charity

A £175,000 Fendt 700 Vario and its driver have been set a serious challenge: to drive out of Fendt's Marktoberdorf factory in southern Germany to a children's hospice in Chorley, Lancashire.

There's a catch, too. The entire journey must be completed on just one tank of fuel. According to our calculations, that means the tractor will need to average 10.2mpg from its 400-litre fuel tank if it's to make it, which will rack up a £560 fuel bill at current white diesel costs.

The epic 893 mile journey - which includes stints in Belgium and France - is being undertaken by Paul Taylor, who is hoping to raise £7,000 for Derian House Children's Hospice in memory of the daughter of friends who died at the hospice in 2007.

Mr Taylor, pictured with a 185hp 720 model, plans to leave the German plant on 14 April and arrive back in the UK a day later.
