Claas Axion goes stepless with ZF CVT gearbox

German manufacturer Claas has launched a new CVT version of its Axion tractors.

Seen today (11th Nov) at Agritechnica – Europe’s largest farm machinery show – three models of the Axion ‘CMATIC’ will be available - 164hp, 183hp and 205hp.

Manufactured by ZF, the stepless continuously variable transmission (CVT) uses both mechanical and hydrostatic power, which is claimed to improve efficiency.

100% mechanical drive is achieved in four ratios and hydrostatic power is used for changes between each, allowing complete control throughout the speed range, from 50m/hr to 50kph.

The Axion CMATIC will be available early next year.
