Cereals 2009: Hereward makes a comeback

Group 1 wheat variety Hereward is coming back to the market, after demand from one of the UK’s biggest millers.

For this harvest, Openfield is offering an extra ÂŁ10/t premium over other Group 1s for Hereward, to ensure Warburtons gets sufficient supplies of the milling variety.

Lee Bennett of Openfield says Hereward still sets the standard for breadmaking, despite being the oldest variety on the Recommended List.

Glencore Grain also has contracts for Hereward to miller Heygates, with the premium worth between 25% and 35% above the feed price.
