Wheat a week away in Yorkshire

Wheat is still a week away from being ripe at Paul Temple’s farm near Driffield, Yorkshire.

He finished his oilseed rape last Monday (11 August), which yielded about average at 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre).

“We have combined oilseed rape at moisture contents we would never previously have entertained,” he said.

The Saffron Winter barley also yielded about average at 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre).

He now had 57ha (140 acres) each of Alchemy and Claire to cut once it ripened up. “But the land is just atrociously wet – it is very soggy underfoot.”

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
