DairyCo mastitis plan ahead of target

The DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan is now in place on 375 farms across the UK – ahead of target for the three-year project, which began in 2009.

The original aim was to implement the plan in 750 herds over the three years that the project is running.

There are now 168 vets and consultants across the country trained to implement the plan, with another 60 registering interest in future courses.

DairyCo product manager Kate Cross is delighted with the results: “It is great to see the mastitis control plan being put into action on so many farms so quickly,” she says.

“We are now also in the process of requesting and receiving follow-up data from herds where the plan has been in place for 12 months. This will allow us to measure the success of the plan in its existing format and method of delivery.”

• Producers are encouraged to enquire about the plan through their vet practice, or find the location of their local plan deliverer on the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan website.
