Combine under wraps for three weeks in Yorkshire

Derek Lamplough has not been able to get on combining for three weeks at Manor Farm, Scarborough, Yorkshire.

“The worry is that the quality starts to go – but I don’t think our wheat will be ripe enough to sprout yet,” he said.

The winter barley, combined at the end of July, averaged 8.4t/ha (3.4t/acre), with the Flagon performing slightly better than the Cassata. All of it made malting quality with no deductions.

Mr Lamplough’s Tipple spring barley was now ready to cut, with the early wheat almost ripe as well.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
