Chef crowned winner of Diamond Jubilee chicken contest
A semi-retired chef has beaten off tough competition in a battle to create a chicken dish in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Paul Bell, 67, from Norwich cooked up a tasty treat for judge Steve Munkley from the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, with his Red Tractor-assured chicken, wrapped in smoked salmon and accompanied with British asparagus and served with mayonnaise and dill.
The competition, which was organised by the Love Chicken website, attracted a variety of creative dishes, including chicken poached in Earl Grey tea.
Mr Bell, who previously worked at the Garden House Hotel in Cambridge during his 25-year career, was awarded with a prize package of ÂŁ400.
NFU poultry board spokesman Kinsey Hern said: “We knew this would be a challenging competition and we were pleasantly surprised by the number of entries we had, with some fantastic recipes created to showcase not just British chicken, but a wide variety of British produce.
“The winning recipe is a simple, but tasty dish which we hope as many people as possible will take time to try and hopefully even the Queen herself.”
