Two days combining left for Richard

Farmer Focus writer Richard Beachell has two good days of combining left to finish harvest at Field House Farm, Driffield, Humberside.

He was combining Malacca winter wheat today (29 August) at 17% moisture, and was enjoying excellent yields of 12t/ha (4.9t/acre).

Both first and second wheats had yielded well above average, but quality had been affected by the large yields and rain, with low protein and Hagbergs of just 170.

“It really wanted to be combined a week or so ago,” he said. Being about two thirds of the way through the wheat, he now had about 73ha (180 acres) to finish off.

Crop: Winter wheat
Variety: Malacca
Area: 145ha (360 acres)
Yield: 12t/ha (4.9t/acre)

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
