Whether it’s precision machinery, tips on optimum crop choice or expert advice to produce a more efficient business strategy, there is plenty on offer at the UK’s top arable event.

Stretching more than 64ha on a working farm and attracting more than 24,000 visitors every year, Cereals is being held on 14 and 15 June at Boothby Graffoe, near Lincoln. Here are five things not to miss.

1. The Soil Pit

This year visitors will see the return of the Soil Pit – larger than ever before – where farmers will have the chance to view crops “underground” in the soil profile. Experts will be on hand to offer tips and advice on soil health, including cultivation techniques and rooting habits of different cover crops.

2. Working demonstrations

There are 5ha of working demonstrations, with tractors, cultivators, drills and subsoilers being put to the test. This year will also see the Drone Zone, with an onsite flying cage for short flights as well as a nearby crop field set up for longer flights.

3. The Arable Conference

For those wanting to keep up with the latest industry research and news, the Arable Conference will cover a breadth of topics – from Brexit to glyphosate. Farmers Weekly is also chairing a seminar on turning data and technology into farm profit at 1.15pm on the first day.

4. Knowledge Trails

This year sees the introduction of six Knowledge Trails, where visitors can seek advice on six hot topics:

• Managing blackgrass
• Precision and efficiency
• Adding value and managing costs
• Brexit-proof your business
• Weeds, disease and nutrition
• Getting the most from oilseed rape

5. Fields of the Future

Fields of the Future display will bring together innovations and research from some of the country’s leading universities and businesses to showcase exactly what is in the pipeline, such as robotic weeders.
