Average barley yields at Galteemore

David Hues has finished combining winter barley at Galteemore Farm, Beckhampton, Wiltshire, and says yields are about average.

“On the good ground it was good, but on the bad ground it wasn’t as good, having been set back by the dry weather.”

The 60ha (150 acres) of Sequel and Suzuka yielded just over 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), with a bushelweight of 68.5kg/hl.

“I hope to be into our oilseed rape at the weekend or early next week,” said Mr Hues.

“It is looking alright – but we need some slightly better weather, as the forecast is a bit unsettled.”
