Whether it’s the drought last spring or the deluge this time round, crops are increasingly facing spells of extreme weather, which can severely hit yields. Very dry periods or monsoon-like conditions are stressing crops, affecting uptake of nutrients, reducing photosynthesis and increasing their susceptibility to disease.   Recovering some of this lost yield by reducing crop stress is part of the new strategy at Belvoir Farming Company in Leicestershire, which resulted from a review of the 2015-16 cropping season.
