Two days wheat combining left for Scottish farmer
Sandy Alison had about two days combining left at Turnhouse Farm, near Edinburgh, where he was busy cutting Consort today (September 3).
“We’re less than a week behind – we’ve had a good run with the combine recently,” he said.
“The Cordiale and Consort second wheats have done in excess of 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) but the Consort and Alchemy first wheats have been disappointing at a good 1.2t/ha (0.5t/acre) down.”
The Mendel oilseed rape managed to yield 3.9t/ha (1.6t/acre) despite a chronic club root problem with the land, said Mr Alison.
