Strong demand at Gaerwen auction mart

Gaerwen Auction Mart, Anglesey: Ewes with lambs at foot remained in strong demand at Monday’s (9 April) sale, with good quality crossbred double couples selling to £265. Crossbred single couples sold to £182, with Welsh bred singles to £100 and Welsh doubles to £142.

Tuesday’s sale saw 304 cattle go under the hammer, said auctioneer Simon Jones. “An excellent show of quality cattle met a very brisk trade.” Overall, steers averaged £950, with a 24-month-old Limousin topping the sale at £1,300. A 24-month-old British Blue peaked at £1,265 for the heifer section, with all heifers averaging £807. Over 30-month-old cows levelled at 128.4p/kg, with a Limousin taking the top price of 163p/kg.
