Humble pie

It’s been a week since the Awards and I reckon I’ve just about recovered enough to write something on the Black Sheep.

From what I can remember it was a great night enjoyed by pretty much everyone who attended.

Certainly those of you that I spoke to seemed to be having a good time (free champers always helps), and the category winners were obviously thrilled to receive their awards, and rightly so.

I’m confident that this event is set to remain part of the Agricultural calendar for many years to come, and – who knows – next year we might even get some music afterwards.

Speaking of the after-dinner entertainment, time seemed to slip down a rogue wormhole in the make up of the universe as I could swear I only had time for a quick bash on the poker table, a rousing thrashing of Mr Art Editor on the air hockey table before it was time to bundle into the back of the cab and slump there for the ride home.

A quick word Re: Kate Humble, who is much lovelier in the flesh than on TV, and also quite tall.

Farming celebrations!!

SC: It is that time of year again, when the great and good of farming are celebrated in the Farmers Weekly Awards. The celebrations, this year based at The Grosvenor hotel, will be hosted by the lovely Fiona Bruce, and will involve highlighting the great achievements of a diverse range of farmers who have contributed in individual ways to their chosen profession.

This year will be my first, so i hope the head won't be too bad tommorow to tell you how it all went!!

Farmers Weekly Awards 2006 - aftermath

Well the Awards is over for another year - time to start planning for next year's.

No joke, according to Debbie Beaton (FW projects editor and Awards organiser), who was telling me on the FWi podcast that work starts on the 2007 Awards in January.

For me the Awards have matured a wee bit for its second outing. There was more confidence from attendees, organsisers and advocates that this was a true celebration of farming and was a perminent fixture on the agricultural calendar.

And true to Black Sheep style - here's a few choice snaps from the nite:
