Beef Shorhorns sell to 3,100gns at Chelford

Beef Shorthorn females sold to 3,100gns at the Beef Shorthorn Society’s official sale at Chelford on Saturday.

 

Leading the sale was a 23 month old in-calf heifer from T C Brown, Blakesley, Northamptonshire. Grafton Jealous Darling (P) is by Chapelton Waverley (H) and out of a home-bred cow and was pd’d in calf to Westmoor Duke. She was secured by a bid of 3,100gns from A C Cooper, Newbury, Berkshire. The same breeder also sold two year old Grafton Daisy (P), also by Waverley and out of a home-bred dam, to J C Bellerby, Leeds, West Yorkshire for 2,600gns. She had also been pd’d in calf to Duke.

 

Mr Bellerby also made a call of 2,300gns to win Llanarth Llanarth Gabrielle (P), a two year old heifer in calf to Llanarth Emlyn. Bred by K E Mitchell, Llanarth, Ceredigion, Gabrielle was by Llanarth Titan (H) and out of a home-bred cow. The Mitchells also sold  for 1,900gns Llanarth Ethans Gina (P), by Llanarth Centaurs Ethan (H) and out of a home-bred cow, to J R Pearce, Ashbourne, Derbyshire who also purchased the only bull in the sale, Sandwick Draughtsman (H), bred by A and C Ivinson, Penrith, Cumbria. By Podehole Atlas (H) and out of Wharfedale Annabelle Tanzy (P), this two year old was secured for 1,550gns.

 

A bid of 1,600gns secured Hannington Dizzy (P). Bred by S S Horton and Sons, Cirencester, Gloucestershire this two year old heifer by Fearn Wanaka (P) and out of a home-bred dam went home with C O Jones, Amlwech, Anglesey.

 

Averages: 1 bull £1,627.00; 6 served heifers £2,012.49; 8 maiden heifers Â£1,287.56
