Bluefaced Leicesters hit £18,000 at Castle Douglas

Bluefaced Leicester breeders reaped the rewards of the strong breeding sheep trade at Castle Douglas on Friday, when a new Scottish record was set for the breed.

Leading the sale was a ram lamb from Messrs Park and Mills, Auchens, Sanquahr, which sold at £18,000 to J and J Cunningham, Parkgatestone, Biggar. Their consignment of eight lambs averaged £3481.25.

In the shearling section an Agglethorpe sired ram from J and A Brown, Macqueston,

Tynron, led the sale at £3900 selling to Loughridge Bros, Northern Ireland. Messrs Brown

went on to sell 10 shearlings to average £1925. Shearling ewes sold to £1000 for one

from J and M Kerr, Craigksean.
