Belted Galloway cattle top 2,400gns twice

Prices peaked at 2.400gns twice at the Belted Galloway Spring show and sale, Carlisle, on the weekend (16 May).

Topping prices in the male section was the first prize junior bull Burnfoot Gandalf from H and N Sloan, Lauder, Berwickshire. Sired by Crystal Herculese he is out of the Lullenden Bute daughter Speddoch Korlanda. Buyer was O Daley, Tarporley, Cheshire.

Female prices also reached 2,400gns for W Marshall and Sons’ May-2013 born heifer Larghill Quiver, Crocketford, Dumfries and Galloway. Sired by Whitepool Neptune she is out of a homebred dam. She won the supreme championship rosette and caught the eye of Beswick Hall Farms, Yorkshire.

Averages: Eight bulls, ÂŁ1,769; two in-calf heifers, ÂŁ1,312.50; 20 bulling heifers, ÂŁ1,106.70; eight maiden heifers, ÂŁ861; two cows swerved or suckling, ÂŁ630.
