Dairy semen specialists World Wide Sires to split from Cogent

Cattle breeding company World Wide Sires (WWS) has confirmed it will be starting its own business in the UK after ending its partnership with Cogent Breeding.

Cogent has been the sole supplier in the UK of WWS genetics for the past five years.

But on Wednesday (2 December) the US genetics company released a statement confirming from 1 February 2016 the new company would become the primary source of WWS genetics in the UK.

It added: “A limited number of bulls may stay with Cogent, but this is under discussion.”

The WWS mating programme will also move with the company.

Mark Evington, former managing director at Cogent, has been appointed as new general manager.

WWS did not comment on why it had decided not to renew its agreement with Cogent, but said the company “would like to thank Cogent Breeding for its partnership over the past five years”.
