Start ewe feed if rain heavy

ON FARMS which have seen heavy rains recently, pregnant ewe feeding should be begun even though it’s earlier than usual, Dugdale Nutrition’s Bryn Davies told Northern and Borders Sheep Fair visitors.

Heavy rain has damaged grazing in many areas, he warned. “Supplementary feeding using 0.25-0.5kg/head a day of a general purpose, mineralised feed at 15-16% protein will be cheaper than trying to get condition back on ewes once lambing time approaches.”
