60 years of breeding sold
AYRSHIRE youngstock representing 60 years of breeding sold to 4000gns when Henry Harvey and Sons completed the dispersal of their Waxham herd.
The family, which has already sold the milking portion and their Waxham prefix, transported 156 head of youngstock from Norwich to Borderway Mart, Carlisle, where red-and-white Holstein progeny dominated the trade.
Breeders G Timbrell and Son of Cirencester snapped up the two most fancied lots. They gave 4000gns for Waxham Esther 31st, a 10-month-old heifer by Indianhead Red Marker. She is out of a cow by Killoch Pension Policy and has a second dam with an eight-lactation average of 7104kg.
She shared the wagon home with Waxham White Rose 152nd at 3200gns. This June 2001-bred daughter of Horizon Ranger Red is out of a Brocklehill Autumn Gold dam.
An older full-sister, the in-calf heifer White Rose 146th, went to Galtson, Ayrshire, breeders A Woodburn and Sons at 2800gns.
Averages: Four newly-calved heifers £824; 40 in-calf heifers £825; 100 bulling heifers and stirks £541 (Harrison & Hetherington). *
