by the Right Reverend James Thompson, The Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells

I AM honoured and delighted to be president of the Royal Bath and West of England Society and the main show this year. My concerns for the farming industry are well known, and I welcome the opportunity to preside over such an outstanding and fun event.

You do not have to travel far in my diocese to see the effects of falling incomes on individual farmers and those in related industries. I am not sure that everyone understands the contribution made by the agricultural industry both to production of food and also to the care of the British countryside.

The Royal Bath and West of England Show is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the very best of this industry to a wider audience and also for 160,000 members of the public to see farming techniques and the excellent British produce which comes from this region.

The show is the ideal shop window for the industry to show off to the public and reinforce the message that British produce is among the best in the world.
