A mix of pedigrees
PART of the varied pedigree livestock interests – which include Welsh Black cattle, Texel and Jacob sheep – came on the market last week when South Wales breeders Meirion and Linda Jones staged a reduction sale from their Simmental herd.
Moved for the sale to Carmarthen Mart, the Jones Dyfed herd grazes land at 1000ft above sea level at Llanfynydd in mid Carmarthenshire.
Its high regional profile as winners of the breed societys South Wales large herds title for the last three years attracted a good crowd which took bidding to 1000gns for a maiden heifer.
The 18-month heifer, by Brinkton Sovereign, had a ticket for a long journey to her new home on the Isle of Islay with buyer Mrs Ann Doyle who also paid 700gns for another maiden heifer by Lodge Major. She completed her consignment with a served heifer tracing back to Yanley Glenda 6th which carries the breeds Golden Cow status based on breeding performance. (Bob Jones-Prytherch and Co.) *
