Barley baron boosts his profile again
OLIVER WALSTON, the self-confessed barley baron who has made a television career out of his confession, is interviewed in The Daily Telegraph today (Monday).
Mr Walston, who farms 809ha (2000 acres) at Thriplow in Cambridgeshire, has incurred the wrath of many farmers for his television series Against the Grain.
He says he has received four anonymous threatening phone calls since the start the series which argues that European farm subsidies should be scrapped.
Mr Walston admits to collecting £180,000 in subsidy, but believes the money should really go to farmers in less-favoured areas like Exmoor and the Highlands.
