Carla Lane needs cash for calves
CARLA Lane, the TV writer turned animal welfare campaigner, is returning to work to pay for the upkeep of 44 dairy bull calves dumped on her doorstep.
Farmers abandoned the animals at Ms Lanes animal welfare centre in Sussex in to draw public attention to plummeting prices last month.
Ms Lane, whose credits include The Liver Birds, Butterflies and Bread, spends £70,000 a year looking after about 3,000 animals.
She said is coming out of retirement to create a new series which will help pay for the upkeep of her menagerie.
