Dog and Land Rover stolen from farm

Police are appealing for information after thieves stole a Land Rover Discovery and 11-year-old dog from a North Yorkshire farm.

The 2003-registration blue Discovery and dog – a chocolate-brown cocker spaniel called Fizz – were taken along with an orange chainsaw and two socket sets.

The theft took place between 5pm on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday (18-19 January) at Westgate Farm, North Deighton, near Wetherby.

Enquiries into the crime are ongoing, and police are urging anyone who has any information, or saw any suspicious activity in the area, to contact them.

Country-wide thefts

It is the latest in a spate of Land Rover thefts across the country.

PCSO Sally Breen, from North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Taskforce urged Land Rover owners to always leave vehicles locked and alarmed – and consider fitting an after-market immobiliser.

“I am urging anyone who owns a Land Rover – and particularly if they live in an isolated, rural area – to take extra steps to ensure their vehicles are left safe and secure,” she said.

“It’s much better to spend a bit of time and money now on better security than to go through the inconvenience and upset of having your vehicle stolen.

“Members of the public act as our eyes and ears in rural areas, and so if you are aware of any suspicious activity, don’t hesitate to call it in, and we will take action.”
