Duty puts paid to cheap Russian imports of AN
ULTRA cheap Russian ammonium nitrate could soon be history as a new duty to protect European manufacturers from dumping comes into force.
The duty was believed to have been set at 26.3ecu/t – just over £17 – at a European Council meeting as farmers weekly went to press (Wednesday).
Some in the trade suggest itmay add £4-£5 to a typical on-farm price of £92/t this spring. UK-made AN should follow.
The rest of the increase has either already happened, or will be soaked up by manufacturers. But the duty means prices will not fall back to the mid-£80/t seen this season, says the trade. *
