By FWi staff

ESSEX farmer Richard Carter has been elected vice-chairman of the main board of leading rural insurer NFU Mutual.

He takes over from Arnold Hitchcock, who announced at the NFU Mutuals recent AGM that he did not wish to seek re-election as vice-chairman. He retires as a director next year.

Mr Carter, 60, who was appointed a main board director in February last year, farms 780 acres of arable land in partnership with his wife at Great Beddow, Essex.

Mr Hitchcock has been a director since 1983 and became vice-chairman in 1987.
