Forestry on hill farms?
THE “college comment” section of The Herald today weighs up the pros and cons of forestry on hill farms.
The contributor estimates that it takes from 10 weeks to eight or 10 months to obtain a Forestry Authority approved Woodland Grant Scheme.
Capital grants are available from the Forestry Authority and the agricultural department can provide the annual compensation payments through the Farm Woodland Premium Scheme.
The contributor says planting is down to the individual farmer – “there is no formula to solve everyones problems”.
