Gamekeeper slaughtered badgers Court told
THE head gamekeeper of Lord Cavendish of Furnesss estate and deer
parkland slaughtered badgers in illegal snares, Kendal Magistrates Court
was told.
Animal lovers found a number of trapped badgers, including one alive,
in woods near the keepers cottage in the Lake District, the court was
told. Other dead badgers, as well as bones, body parts and skulls, were
littered around the estate hidden in crevices.
John Drummond, 32, of Grange-over-Sands, is head gamekeeper on the
estate. He faces 65 charges brought under the Protection of Badgers Act
and Wildlife and Countryside Act. He denies the charges.
