Potato retailers put good looks before quality
POTATO plant breeders may neglect overall quality in pursuit of aesthetic appearance because of the major retailers obsession with skin-deep attractiveness.
Dr Finlay Dale, of the Scottish Crop Research Institute, told a meeting of growers that other criteria, such as resistance to virus, was being neglected to concentrate on skin quality.
