Think before spraying, farmers urged

THE Government has asked farmers to consider the potential harmful effects chemical sprays have on people, animals and the environment before using them this spring.

The Ministry of Agricultures revised code of practice for pesticides
suggests farmers and growers assess any potential harm and to minimise their use of sprays where possible. Warning must also be given to neighbouring communities.

Jack Cunningham, agriculture minister, said growers should consider whether the
potential economic loss is outweighed by the cost of applying the pesticide.
