A farmer had a lucky escape from serious injury after the tractor he was driving flipped and ended up on its roof.

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said the crash happened on the B1051 in Broxted at 10.19am on Tuesday (1 March). A single crew from Stansted was sent to deal with the incident.

The driver, a man aged in his 40s, had managed to free himself from the crushed cab of his New Holland tractor by the time the emergency team arrived on the scene.

Firefighters gave the driver oxygen and he was left in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service. Paramedics treated him at the scene for minor injuries before he was discharged at 11.15am.

The road was closed to allow fire teams to clear a diesel leak and the damaged tractor was also recovered.

Meanwhile, emergency services in Warwickshire were called into action when a tractor-trailer overturned on the A5 near Atherstone.

Police said no one was injured in the incident on Saturday (27 February), but the southbound carriageway had to be closed while the machinery and bales were removed.
