Vital data to lift NI ban

NORTHERN Irelands cattle farmers will, in the coming few weeks, receive letters from the department of agriculture requesting information that will be vital to getting the beef ban lifted for certified herds.

A requirement of the scheme, still being discussed in Brussels, is that the dams of eligible cattle must have survived for at least six months after the birth of that animal.

The department will write to all herd owners who have potentially eligible animals born on their farm between Oct 1, 1995 and Dec 31, 1997, asking them to check their herd records and identify the dams. &#42
