Welsh in force at BBlue sale
WELSH breeders were the predominant buyers at the British Belgian Blue Cattle Societys sale, Lichfield where bulls reached 2500gns.
The March-1998 bull Bassibones Punch, by Igenieux du Stordeur and consigned by C and M Godden, Great Missenden, Bucks topped the trade selling to G and S Wainwright, Sheffield.
There were two 2000gns deals. Blackburn, Lancs based Maguire Livestock Services sold their Navac Playboy, by Junior de la Faussie, to Bodmin, Cornwall farmers D and M Oliver while Bengall Oscar from James Reid, Lockerbie heads for mid-Wales with S J Smith, Penybryn Castle, Welshpool.
The contingent of Welsh buyers fought for all the females on offer taking bidding to 1600gns for the in-calf heifer Blue Linson Ocean. This Bringlee Freeman daughter was from Rugeley, Staffs breeder Graham Tomlinson. Buyers were A and B Morgan, Pontardulais, Swansea.
Don and Lorna Tyson from Wirral, Cheshire sold their maiden heifer Donnah Pluto Finesse at 1260gns to Mrs F M Langford and Sons, Berriew, Welshpool. And the 1995-bred cow Battlesden Mavis, by Platinum George and suckling an April-born bull calf, faced the longest journey home. She made 1600gns to Raymond Gunn, Caithness who selected her from the dispersal of Wilts breeders S and L Ropers Anmark herd. (Wintertons with United Auctions.)7
