  • What the papers say – Farmers protest

FARMERS demonstrated outside London Weekend Television when Dr Jack
Cunningham, the agriculture minister, was being interviewed by
    Jonathan Dimbleby on BSE.

They were protesting about beef prices. About 70 farmers carried a
coffin draped in a Welsh flag with a notice attached: “Jack In The
    Box”.

Meanwhile, the Government-backed Medical Research Council has given
Birmingham University scientists £361,000 to develop medication
that will slow the effects of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and improve
    the quality of life for
    sufferers.
