Workplace deaths are down
NINE people died from work-related injuries in the agriculture sector in Scotland last year. That was the second lowest figure this decade.
Announcing the figures at the Royal Highland Show, David Mattey, the Health and Safety Executives chief agricultural inspector, welcomed the reduction from 12 deaths in 1996/97 to the provisional figure of nine this year. And he was pleased to report that no children were included in the list. But there were certainly no grounds for complacency.
