Enter now for £2,000 poultry training grant

Entries are invited for the 2016 Zoetis/BPC Trainee Award, now in its tenth year, which offers the winner a £2,000 training grant.

In addition to the grant, the winner receives a £500 cash prize from Poultry World and commemorative plaque, with all finalists attending the BPC annual awards presentation at the House of Commons, followed by an award dinner on 6 December

Last year’s winner, Annabelle Heath, applied to study for a Higher National Certificate  in poultry production at Scotland’s Rural College, a two-year course delivered through distance learning modules.

Zoetis-BPC-logoBy contrast, the 2014 winner Sam Jones has benefited from a series of training courses, including a course with the University of Georgia on winter ventilation.

In addition, he became one of the first at Aviagen Turkeys to complete the RSPH Level 2 award in safe use of rodenticides. Mr Jones has obtained a fork-lift qualification and completed the poultry welfare officer course run by AW Training in Bristol, and is enrolled for the Level 4 ILM Management Diploma with Joint Learning.

‘Progression’

He said the courses undertaken had helped progress his career.

 “Their varied nature means I’ve increased my development in key areas including ventilation management, bird welfare and people management. These new skills have allowed me to progress and helped me to contribute towards procedure development within the business.”
