Winner

Jean MacDonald

Jean MacDonald of Craven Arms in Shropshire came across this abandoned tractor while out walking. It is, of course, a Ferguson TE20 (aka a Little Grey Fergie) – the tractor that, with its pioneering hydraulic three-point linkage, revolutionised groundwork after WWII and so became the backbone of arable farms across the country.

Highly commended

Andrew Hughes

“The photo was taken on our last evening of harvesting wheat in September this year at about 10pm,” says Andrew Hughes of Finkley, Hampshire. It was taken with a Canon EOS 50D with a 70-200mm lens.

Highly commended

James Kirkham

James Kirkham impressed in this category. “I saw the chance for a photo since the barley and the sky were such striking colours,” says the 17-year-old from Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire. “I enjoy competing against my dad, who’s also a keen amateur photographer, so things can get quite competitive between us!”

Highly commended

Tim Payne

“We were cracking on with ploughing barley stubble in September, preparing ground for peas, with the new Kverneland plough on the John Deere 7930,” recalls Tim Payne of South Pickenham in Norfolk. The shot was taken near Bedingham Hall Farm, close to Bungay, with an iPhone 4.
