Barley comes in trumps
“Only 2.83 ha (7 acres) out of the 48 ha (117 acres) had a yield below 8.65 t/ha (3.5 t/acre) which was really good.”
He harvested 25 ha (60 acres) of Pearl and was impressed by the high specific weights.
“The crop was looking very good – we‘d fill up a 12 tonne trailer with Pearl and it would be half a tonne heavier than the trailers with the other varieties.”
He also harvested 9 ha (22 acres) of Colossus which yielded over 9.88 t/ha (4 t/acre) – “it was fairly impressive,” he commented.
The 14 ha (35 acres) of Siberia also performed well with all the varieties coming in around 16% moisture.
Mr Foster said “we had 2-3 nice days which really set everything off”.
He also grows 40 ha (100 acres) of Winner oilseed rape which he said was very variable.
“It‘s all a mixed bag with the oilseed rape, it‘s ripened unevenly and the berries are coming in all different colours.”
