Barley does well but OSR disappoints in Wales
Combines had not moved in five days for Meurig Raymond, Vice President of the National Farmers Union, in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
He was very pleased with the Carat and Pearl winter barley which yielded about average at 7.5 – 8t/ha. He said it looked good, was nice and golden, plus it provided plenty of straw.
Mr Raymond said Caracus and Winner oilseed rape had suffered from the July hot spell yielding below the five year average at 3.8t/ha.
He was also concerned by a few dry areas of Cocktail malting barley which had been burnt up by the early July drought.
