Barley makes a welcome return
Frank Thomson from Burnside of Tynet, Moray is happy with his winter barley after its 20-year absence from the farm.
With 9t/ha and 15% moisture achieved after being late drilled on heavy land, the inclusion of winter barley in the farm’s rotation looks promising.
Varieties include Boost, Colossus and Bronx.
Still to be combined on the farm is oilseed rape, spring barley and winter wheat which are all still a couple of weeks away from being ready.
