BASF and Adama commit to joint fungicide venture
© Tim Scrivener BASF Agricultural Solutions has partnered with crop protection company Adama to co-develop new fungicide products for cereal growers.
Adama, which has developed fungicide active ingredient Gilboa, will work alongside BASF to bring new product formulations to market.
The partnership should help to accelerate the launch of products, with Gilboa-based formulations for wheat expected next year for the GB market, subject to registration, and across Europe in 2029.

Gilboa, the trade name for flumetylsulforim, was classified as having a unique mode of action for cereals by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee last year.
Joel Johnson, business director for UK and Ireland at BASF, said: “This is a major development for UK agriculture. Gilboa represents a timely and valuable new tool for managing disease and safeguarding yield.
“As growers face mounting challenges, this innovation strengthens our ability to maintain the production of quality cereal crops while supporting long-term resistance management.”
BASF and Adama will both be able to develop and commercialise new formulations under the agreement, and determine their own pricing and concepts.
Florian Wagner, executive vice-president for portfolio and innovation at Adama, said: “Farmers have been clear about their need for reliable, resilient protection against a broad range of diseases.
“With Gilboa, cereal growers in Europe gain a powerful new tool to better protect their crops.
“We chose to collaborate with BASF because they share our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.
“This alignment makes them the ideal partner to ensure we can rapidly deliver this important innovation to growers across Europe.”
