Be clear on product labels

GROWERS AND advisors need to make sure they are fully aware of herbicide label recommendations this spring, Dow AgroSciences has warned.

The company is keen to clear up any confusion surrounding the recent approval allowing Starane (fluroxypyr + florasulam), to be tank mixed with Atlantis (mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium).

“Only one other product with an ALS-inhibitor mode of action can be applied to a cereal crop which has been treated with Starane XL,” explained the firm‘s David Roberts.

When the product is used in sequence or tank mixed with other ALS-inhibitor products, there are no additional following crop or cultivation restrictions above those on either product label, he said.

But when using tank mixes or sequences, growers should follow the most limited label, Mr Roberts suggested.

In the case of Atlantis, the only crops approved for sowing in the year of treatment are winter wheat and barley – so this is the most limited label, compared to Starane and the one growers should follow, he said.
