Become a reporter on Farmers Weekly’s Arable desk

Ever considered a career in agricultural journalism?

Farmers Weekly is hiring, so this could be your chance to nab one of the most exciting roles in UK farming.

If you love agriculture, are a skilled communicator and are excited by the prospect of a career in the media then look no further.

This varied (think wellies and a smartphone) and fulfilling (we’re a passionate team who strive for the highest standards) role is on our arable desk, working across the magazine, the website and social media.

You can expect to be involved in such varied tasks as interviewing farmers, shooting video, tweeting live from the harvest field or representing Farmers Weekly at one of its successful events.

But no two weeks will be the same – the photo above shows one of our team interviewing rugby star Dan Lydiate as part of Farmers Weekly‘s Fit2Farm campaign.

Varied backgrounds

The role might suit a college- or university-leaver. Equally, it could be perfect for someone already in farming or one or the ancillary sectors.

Previous recruits have joined our award-winning team from such varied backgrounds as the grain trade, land agency and farm management.

Don’t be put off if you haven’t got any journalistic experience or aren’t an arable specialist – what we’re looking for is someone with great writing skills and a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the arable sector.

If you can wow us with your potential and your ability to hit the ground running, we want to talk to you.

You will need, of course, a sense of what makes arable farmers tick and be up for shaping the way we provide news and analysis to help them stay informed and make the right business decisions.

The role is based in our Surrey offices, but you’ll be out and about on farm around the UK and even abroad.

Training and self-development

The successful candidate will get the chance to be at the heart of a friendly, talented team, they’ll get great opportunities for training and self-development, and join a multinational company, with all the associated benefits.

If that hasn’t convinced you why this is one of the best vacancies currently available, here’s what one of our reporters, Lucinda, has to say about her role.

To apply, send your CV and a covering letter to the arable editor richard.allison@reedbusiness.com
